The Presence of Places

A Visual Journey from Egypt’s Geography to the Depths of the Soul: Emad Abu Zeid Launches "The Presence of Places" at Al-Bab Hall
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Fine Arts Sector—led by Dr. Mahmoud Hamed—launched the exhibition "The Presence of Places" (*Hudur al-Amakin*) by artist and art critic Dr. Emad Abu Zeid on the evening of Tuesday, October 13. The event took place at Al-Bab Hall, located in the Cairo Opera House complex.
The opening ceremony was attended by a large gathering of artists and academics, including Dr. Salwa Hamdy (Head of the Central Administration for Museums and Exhibitions), Dr. Adel Tharwat, Ahmed Hatem, Amr Salama, Magdy Anwar, Mohamed Ali Nasra, Mohamed Ibrahim (Director of the Palace of Arts), Shaker Al-Idrissi, artist Mohamed Allam, and others.
The "Presence of Places" exhibition does more than take the visitor on a fleeting geographical journey across Egypt’s diverse cities and villages—ranging from Farafra, Al-Quseir, and Marsa Alam to Dahab, Rosetta (Rashid), Qena, and Luxor. It transports the viewer from the physical terrain to the depths of the soul. Here, place is not merely a subject for documentation or direct visual reproduction; rather, the artist uses it as a springboard for deeper contemplation, transforming details of the sea, the desert, intense light, and the marks of time into a pure "internal experience."
It is worth noting that the "Presence of Places" exhibition welcomes visitors at Al-Bab Hall until October 24, 2026.
